Arizona Moves to Exempt Crypto from State Taxes in Bid to Become Blockchain Hub
Arizona Senator Wendy Rogers has prefiled two bills and a constitutional resolution aimed at eliminating state and local taxes on cryptocurrency transactions and blockchain infrastructure. The legislative push positions Arizona to become one of the most crypto-friendly jurisdictions in the U.S.
SB 1044 proposes exempting VIRTUAL currencies from state taxation, while SB 1045 would prohibit municipalities from taxing individuals or businesses operating blockchain nodes. The measures reflect growing recognition of blockchain's economic potential—and the competitive advantage of tax-friendly policies.
The most consequential change comes via SCR 1003, which WOULD amend Arizona's constitution to exclude digital assets from property taxes. Unlike the node protection bill, this constitutional amendment requires voter approval in the 2026 general election.
